Lake City has more boardwalks than any other place in Colorado; the walks are a continual work in progress and this work, including addition of more sections each year, is mainly financed by donations. In the spring of 2008 we chose to contribute, and this is the plaque that was placed, guess where?, right in front of the Depot Saloon to honor our involvement! The Depot is the newest watering hole in town, and we've actually not been in there this summer at all, but it's a very popular spot for the locals.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwKPOvXpdTAg88cxGt-at295Gr_SEOaT8htBjQB3-bR3Q61b-t1a5Wd6EspQkxP7R-Jp8QG0jV22tj1lBGRhnzZLRhZG_3T8TZDGNgHfIW7c5arJhffP5QqBOKuZP_fIMuo3zRb8C4Ctsw/s200/20090628Sights,Signs+017.jpg)
This is the quiet boardwalk that leads to the Depot.

Continuing our walk through the Historic District, we see a number of nicely kept, dollhouse-like houses, located on very narrow lots.

Self-explanatory. Right behind the bank is the National Guard Armory, used as a community center (weekly bingo, dances, concerts, etc etc) and the second floor contains a workout room where Edmund regularly does his gym work.
The San Juan Soda Co. and gift shop may be the best business in town. It's located across the street from the community park on the main square, and this time of the year has a brisk business every day.
And fortunately, it's next door to the Public Library, and so far I've sampled 7 of my favorite flavors! And even Edmund has succumbed a couple of times.

Again, self-explanatory -- located on the other side of the library. I've enjoyed using the library, they let me take as many out at once as I want, and don't worry if they don't all get back on time. When I came in with a list of books I'd accumulated as "want to read someday," they told me to leave the list and looked them up for me to see what is in the inventory so I wouldn't be looking for books they don't have. The next week it was all done for me. How nice is that?

Unfortunately, this is not the only one in the downtown area that appears abandoned. Perhaps being in the Historic District doesn't always encourage good upkeep, as there are very strict rules pertaining to these old buildings.
