More Walkabout

This sign is locaed at the south edge of town; the rv park where we're located is only about 2 blocks from the city limits. The entire town is about 3 mi. long and 6 blocks wide.

As we cross the highway on our walk we find this restaurant, a popular spot for motorcycle groups passing through. Poker Alice was a real person dating from the glory days of mining in the mountains surrounding the town.
This restaurant, like many other local businesses, often employs young people from Eastern Europe who come here to work and polish their language skills. Edmund often encounters the young guys in the gym where he goes to work out; many of them are from Bulgaria and LOVE the U.S.A.

The Sportsman is adjacent to Poker Alice, and is everything the sign advertises and more. It's here that we became acquainted with young Will Quinn who's been featured on previous years' blogs. Unfortunately, we haven't seen him this summer as yet, and haven't heard anything about him. But we're certain he's thriving and pursuing life with the same vigor we enjoyed in him in all the summers we had opportunity to know him.

The General Store stocks everything from bed pillows (ours came from there) to office supplies, and it's always fun to go in and just poke around to see what new or different items are on the shelves.

These are good examples, too, of the many, many signs around town. We have a similar one hanging on our 5th wheel which displays our names & home town (Oro Valley). There's a fellow in town who makes these signs, and over the years must have reaped a pretty good amount of money from his work, as his work hangs just everywhere, even the highway signs at the boundaries of Hinsdale County clearly are his work. Again, diversification. He does signs, is a notary, and does all sorts of other office services for local businesses.

The General Store is actually just outside the city limits and has been our saviour more than once when we desperately needed something (like bed pillows) and were amazed to find it there.
