Come With Us For a Walk

We've taken it pretty easy on our entry to this almost 9000' elevation life, getting our oxygen levels up to par and our muscles accordingly working better. A part of our breakin period has been walking, and within a very short distance of the rv park there are many examples of what makes this area so visually interesting.

Just around the corner is Hutch & Roxa's enterprise, an amalgam of breakfast, bbq, burgers, catfish, propane, gasoline, garage, towing, live music shows, karaoke, and this year's addition is Bluebell icecream, the national icecream of Texas I'm told.

Hutch and Roxa, like many local business owners, have diversified and innovated to maintain a viable enterprise. Last year they added an outdoor entertainment area behind the main building where all sorts of things go on, including an open mike night. The business faces onto Hiway 149, aka the Silver Thread Highway, which runs through Lake City, beginning at South Fork and ending near Gunnison. This scenic highway attracts travelers of all kinds, and in particular motorcyclists and campers.

Hutch's signature truck, like the main building, shows lots of bumps and bruises from time and use, but remains functional as well as decorative.

Many business owners make the best of buildings that date back to the big mining days of this area, some over a century old.

Some are preserved as historic; others have been renovated, added onto, or just repaired and maintained as necessary to house a business.

We have awarded The Sportsman's hamburger as the 2nd best in town. First place we'll talk about later!
